Behind the Camera: Filming the Story of 2 Face for Shannons Insurance

Working on the “2 Face” project for Shannons Insurance was one of those shoots that remind me why I got into filmmaking in the first place. I teamed up with my mate Jake Ashe, who runs Lucky Boy agency, to capture the story of Geoff Luck’s insane restoration project—a Holden HZ Sandman look-a-like ute with a split personality. One side was restored to perfection, while the other side was left covered in years of road grime and dirt. The goal? To tell Geoff’s story for Shannons’ DRIVEN series, which is all about celebrating the passion of motoring enthusiasts.

The Idea Behind “2 Face”

Geoff’s vision for “2 Face” was pretty wild. He wanted a runabout truck for his panel shop, GC Restoration, but also something that would turn heads and serve as a rolling business card. Blending old-school grit with showroom shine, the build was a way to showcase both the restoration skills and the nostalgia of the HZ Sandman. From the moment Jake and I sat down with Geoff to hear his plan, we knew this shoot was going to be something special.

Day 1: Hitting the Road

We kicked things off with some dynamic shots to show off the ute’s dual personality. This meant a bit of everything—tracking shots from other vehicles, drone footage to capture the split look from above, and some locked-off tripod shots for those close-up details. Seeing “2 Face” rolling down the road, one side gleaming and the other side rough and raw, was a sight.

Day 2: Getting the Story

Day two was all about capturing the heart of the story. We interviewed Geoff to get the backstory on “2 Face”—why he built it, the challenges he faced, and what it means to him. Between takes, we grabbed plenty of B-roll in the workshop, showing the tools, parts, and late-night efforts that brought this thing to life. Geoff’s passion for what he does was obvious, and it made capturing his story that much easier.

Wrap-Up

Looking back, working on the “2 Face” project was an absolute blast. It’s not every day you get to help tell the story of a build this unique, with someone as passionate as Geoff at the helm. Collaborating with Jake and seeing the whole thing come together reminded me why I love doing what I do—capturing the passion, the detail, and the stories that make builds like “2 Face” so special.

It's these kinds of projects that keep me fired up about filmmaking. Looking forward to what’s next!
